A Sweet Surprise Is on the Way

Dear Diary,

Another week has flown by! The baby bump is definitely here to stay. As the countdown to our anatomy scan grows smaller and smaller (less than a week?!)

I've also had my first experience of people reaching out and rubbing my belly. It was almost comical, we were at a restaurant celebrating a birthday and there were a few guests we knew but were not too familiar with. They ran over and immediately reached out to rub my belly, saying how this is such an exciting time and I must be having an amazing pregnancy.

I was absolutely stunned! I’d heard stories of this but I couldn’t believe this actually happened. It’s not that I mind, necessarily, I just wasn’t expecting that reaction! My husband was frozen in shock as random women reached out and started reminiscing about when they were first pregnant. I’ve also learned that many people will keep asking me how I’m feeling and I’m running out of ways to say ‘tired’ and ‘hungry’. Again, I am so lucky and appreciative that we have so much love surrounding us as we welcome this baby, but my brain seems to have fried over the last few weeks. I can’t seem to hold a conversation for longer than 15 minutes, especially after a long day at work! Any other mama’s ever experienced this?! Is this what they mean when they say you get ‘baby brain’? On top of the lack of social battery, I forget things quite often and I’ve been stumbling over my words. I hope this passes soon, because work is getting difficult when I stutter and trip over my speech.

To relieve some of the anticipation anxiety around our next anatomy scan, I’ve been trying to focus on how we want to find out the gender. Our two main options are either: picking out a baby boy and baby girl outfit and asking the cashier to pack up whatever the envelope shows; or heading over to a small bakery or ice cream shop and asking them to pick either blue or pink frosting based on the envelope results.

Any advice or thoughts? Almost half way through this pregnancy! I can’t believe how fast time is flying by!

See you next week with the gender results!

B.
