After all the talk, recommendations and hype finally we have got round to reading Binding 13 by Chloe Walsh. As a former romance lover we have only put this off for one reason only: we have outgrown the cheesy love eek at the moment. Put here at Luna we want to try new things and don't want to judge a book by its cover.
Starting off, what is it all about? The story follows Shannon and Johnny who live in Ireland. The teens first love story revolves around Shannon's endless bullying that pushes her to move to a new school. At Tommen College it only brings the darkness of her past whilst making new friends. But popular boy Johnny becomes intrigued by her. He wants to care for her but Shannon can't help but try to hold back. With their own secrets it could come as a cost to both of them together.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book. And it is a big book with just over 700 pages. I think I was just intimidated at the idea of committing to a love story that was that long. This wasn’t just a romance story but two stories intertwined within each other. You had both Shannon and Johnny's individual stories and their love story too. It was more than a romance to me but two stories from two very different walks of life, the rich and the poor. Despite the relationship finally blooming over half way through, that didn't matter. You developed a connection with the two as you got to know them which created an important build up. I enjoyed how it wasn't rushed and wasn't this cringe unrealistic relationship.
Another thing that was a big part of why I enjoyed Binding 13 were the characters. It is very rare to love so many characters in a book. And I am not just talking about the two lovers, but friends and family too. My personal favourites have to be Joey and Gibsie. This made a huge difference as you created a bond with them which is clever from Walsh as the rest of the series delves into those characters too with their own individual stories.
Like I said there are more books, how exciting! They are definitely on my TBR pile for sure. Just another five books to go.
The one thing that I didn't particularly enjoy was it got too much about sport. This is purely my own preference and I wouldn't say it wrote off the book but for myself there could be pages and pages about rugby which could be a bit boring from time to time. I understand that this is a crucial part of the story. The excitement from the romance blooming. I could have just wanted to rush the sports talk.
I would rate this for sure 4.7/5.
Come back for more of the series soon!
Ps. They are filming the series soon.
