From Tribute to Tradition: The First Mother’s Day

Dear Diary,

Happy Mother’s Day! This past weekend was one of the moments I truly felt like ‘Wow, this is really happening! I’m going to be a mom this year.’ Usually, Mother’s Day weekend is spent with my mom and then my mother-in-law. This year, we changed things up a bit. My husband wanted to celebrate our first year as almost parents, so we made a reservation for brunch with my in-laws and then he had a surprise at home for me. I’ve been starting to feel anxiety about the baby registry, since there’s just so much stuff out there! I knew one thing I desperately wanted

was a rocking chair or love seat with a recliner. We only have one couch in our small condo and I knew breastfeeding, putting the baby to sleep and just being comfortable was going to be tricky with the one couch.

I was so surprised when I got home and there was a brand new love seat that doubled as both a recliner (with built-in massagers!) and a rocking chair! I was so happy I cried, and I spent the entire evening lounging in the chair. It was so much easier on my back and neck than trying to position myself on the small couch.

I’ve never been one for flowers or jewelry, but this made me feel so loved and seen by my husband. He knew I wanted something practical, something that would help us in the long run, and he made sure I didn’t have to make any decisions or do any of the research. It was the perfect way to end our weekend together.

In the upcoming weeks, we have our anatomy scan to look forward to! We are so excited to find out if the baby is going to be a boy or girl! None of my clothes fit nicely anymore, so I suppose it’s also time to start shopping for some looser clothing items that will make me feel a bit more confident as we head into summer.

Any recommendations on brands that are affordable but still cute? My self-confidence has hit an all-time low this week.

See you next week,

B.
