March Film Club: Hoppers

For March, the movie of the month is: Hoppers. We all need to heal our inner child and what better way than to spend a cinema date watching a Disney film?

Before seeing the film my Tik Tok feed was full of clips and memes from the film which made me want to watch the film even more.

First let's start off with the plot. The story follows our main character Mabel. Who is obsessed with animals and is protective over her forest glade where she used to spend her time with her grandma. When the government plans threaten to hurt the glade, she is out of hope on how to bring the animals back. Luckily for her she finds out there are secret experiments taking place in her town which leads to her transferring herself into the body of a beaver to reclaim their habitat back.

I thoroughly enjoyed this cartoon, it was funny and chaotic, all of the things you want from a cartoon film. It centered around the environment and taught a lesson even to someone in their twenties, like me. I loved feeling like I was behind the scenes with the animals but then could be transformed into the human world. It was a fun concept through science fiction. Most of all was the humour. If you are a silly girl like me you will love the daft humor. Inside, almost adult jokes between the different animals from beavers to mouses, definitely had the attention to detail.

One of the themes that was explored was community. Putting yourself into the animals' shoes  whilst being human was clever to understand even though it is fiction. Having a community, the government represents the realities of what the world can be like and we have seen examples of these in adulthood, which is good to teach children through cartoons.

There wasn't anything I necessarily didn't enjoy about Hoppers but what could have been improved was the music. I feel with a lot of Disney films they have their iconic songs like Zootropolis and Inside Out. There may have been a signature song that I didn't pick up on as I am aware, there was a song by SZA which was only played at the credits.

If you want a laugh and a giggle to switch off from the world, try Hoppers and let us know here at Luna what you thought and if you enjoyed it as much as we did. Lets be honest we are all suckers for cartoons now and then!
