Updated: Jan 23

Throughout the year our phones are bustling with announcements of what's to come for the next year. A film or a book is released and it isn't enough. We want more. I wanted to share some releases that are on my radar for the year just in case you missed all the spam and nonsense. Why can’t we as humans enjoy one thing at a time huh?

Books:

Dear Debbie

Are we all not suckers for a cliche and say we love Freida McFadden? Her books are the gift that keeps giving, coming from someone who has read all her books, I might be biased.

McFadden is delivering us a book in the new year, January 27. Most famous for The Housemaid Series, which I can add, I finished last year in a week. All the more to pick one of her books up.

Dear Debbie is a new fiction thriller with a twist which wants justice into their own hands. Main character, Debbie Mullen who has been "losing it" for a while now despite being an advice columnist you would think it would be the other way round. Giving advice and sympathy to housewives and neighbors has been her thing but with her life spiraling out of control it has become harder to control. Then losing her job, her relationship with her teenage daughter getting harder, she is done walking around with a mask on. She decides to take her own advice. Which may lead to some due payback...

I am thoroughly excited for this as a fan of McFaddens’ books. It is always exciting to find out the storyline she has created. Every one is different and ventures into a plot that sounds fun and especially as this one explores girl power at its finest.

Daisy Chain Flower Shop

Now we have something more light hearted, some may say cheesy. But everyone secretly loves a bit of cheese, I know I do. I go around telling everyone I don’t like romance. But catch me reading a romance before bed because my Thriller scared me a little. Only a little.

Daisy Chain Flower Shop has got me excited, part of the Dream Harbour series. Book number six, written by Laurie Gilmore, a new romance has landed in town. It will be released May 19, perfect for Spring/Summer. If you haven't read Pumpkin Spice Cafe, this Autumn add it to your Goodreads list ready for the cosy season later.

The plot is all about Daisy and how unlucky in love she has been. In her flower shop she sells flowers to weddings which have all ended in divorces. Which is not good for business. Fresh on the scene, Elliot has landed into town life with his own relationship struggles, always making a conscious effort to avoid any flower shops. But to his surprise he needs to buy flowers leading to florist Daisy. Will love blossom?

A cosy romantic fiction book is definitely what is needed after the holidays going into Spring next. The small town setting and knowing all the characters’ stories makes it even better. You can read these as standalone books but it is more fun when a golden oldie creeps into the story with their love stories too.

Fury Bound

Another anticipated read from the fantasy world. Fury Bound is going to arrive to carry on the Wolves of Ruin series. Earlier in the year, in February of 2025, we were blessed by Sable Sorensen’s new fantasy series. Now the next book is officially going to be released 5 May, the story will continue.

For those who haven’t read Dire Bound I will briefly go over what you have missed without any spoilers. Meryn Cooper has never liked the bond. The bonded are elite warriors who have links with direwolves. While Meryn struggles to look after her family in poverty while they live a life of luxury. Then suddenly Meryn's sister is kidnapped forcing her to enlist into the bonding trials. Now her next step is to focus on surviving and to bond with one of the direwolves in time, meanwhile uncover secrets that are hidden in the halls.

Onto the second book to be released Fury bound carries on the story after being left on a cliffhanger. With elite soldiers inheriting the crown and a deadly war on the horizon all they can rely on is their bonded direwolves. The question is: will destiny be fulfilled?

This Fourth Wing meets The Hunger Games series, was a book club pick. At first I didn't think it would be my cup of tea and how I was so wrong. This beautiful, exciting and emotional book brought a lot of gasps while sitting in bed. I am looking forward to seeing where the story is going to be taken, in the next steps of the story.

In my budding fantasy era, the Silver Elite series brought all the dystopian vibes I missed since reading The Divergent Series. Dani Francis’ second book, Broken Dove is going to be released along with Fury Bound in May too.

Another fantasy romance which started with the book, Silver Elite. The first book was released in May last year and delved into the mind of Wren Darlington. Her psychic gifts are either a death sentence or a key to survival. Over time she has become one of the most powerful Mods which leads her onto joining the Silver Elite training program. With this comes deadly tasks and secrets along the way. With her psychic abilities she must prove herself and most of all her commanding officer.

Broken Dove

Onto the next release, Broken Dove. Wren is caught in the middle of two wars, her home and her heart. After being uncovered, she is safe behind allied lines for now. With lovers involved her focus becomes blurred while finding out some secrets of her own. These secrets aren't just any, they could change everything, making everything she knew twisted. It can only mean one thing, which is to confront all the questions swirling in her mind and who she really needs to fight for. Or what could be lost along the way.

TV and Film:

Onto more entertainment and into the cinematic world.

Euphoria

A major comfort show of mine and what feels like a throwback is another season of Euphoria. This era through lockdown made the situation easier, it almost feels nostalgic thinking about waiting for it to be released every week. It will be found on HBO Max with a total of eight episodes.

Season three will arrive in April 2026, at first I didn't believe it. After so many dates and setbacks it is finally going to arrive. This season will take a five year jump. So will the characters as they navigate through adulthood after High School.

Starting with Rue (Zendaya) who is living in Mexico and still in debt with her drug dealer. Onto Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) shock horror the two are engaged and living together. With Jules (Hunter Schafer) in the background joining art school and wanting to pursue a career being a painter. Finally Maddy (Alexa Demie) sets out to work in Hollywood and Lexi (Maude Apatow) an assistant to a showrunner.

Now all the characters are set, there will be newcomers Rosalía and Sharon Stone along with lots of new settings. Award winner Hans Zimmer will be involved with Labrinth to bring another special soundtrack.

Wuthering Heights

A film that is only just around the corner raring to break everyone's heart is a tragedy story Wuthering Heights. A love story in eighteenth century England, is coming to cinema February 13.

This tumultuous story is directed by Emerald Fennell, creator of Saltburn, which is another reason to watch this movie. I will be expecting big and beautiful things. With main characters, Catherine Earnshaw (Margot Robbie) and Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi) , what could go wrong?

A story by Emily Bronte, a classic. In a modern film, Charli XCX is taking over the soundtrack. What could be better, especially from a BRAT girl.

Super Mario Galaxy

As a pink Nintendo owner myself, I was over the moon when the first Super Mario Bros film came out. And now another moving into the Wii world? On April 3 Mario, Luigi and Peach will embark on their next journey, now to the galaxy.

With original voices Mario (Chris Pratt) and Bowser (Jack Black) this family adventure is based all around the 2007 video game. It is a sequel to the Super Mario Bros. The movie was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic.

This movie will entail a space adventure. Traditionally as we know Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach and the team follows to save her. The castle is in space and the journey leads to creating their team to gather power stars to stop him.

I am especially excited for this, I loved the first one and as a child the Super Mario Galaxy game was my favourite. This could heal my inner child, if not bring a lot of fun and nostalgia. And as we know, I love nostalgia.

That's it from Luna here, all of our eyes are looking for more exciting releases but here are the main ones from books to movies to TV shows. We hope you join us along the way and enjoy all these or write about them too.
