WARNING SPOILERS
This comedy thriller TV show delves into the lives of a married couple through their podcast journey with a serial killer. I know at first that sounds crazy and you will have many questions. Luckily for us we are expecting a season two soon, the mystery continues. Peacock's dark comedy show is available on Now TV and Sky Max.
The wild ride starts when husband, Nathan Bartlett, played by Chris Messina loses his job as a tennis coach in LA. To then his pregnant wife, Ava Bartlett, played by Kaley Cuoco who is struggling in the real estate industry. After a broken toilet they hire a plumber, Matt Pierce, played by Tom Bateman for help, only Nathan to befriend him. In the meantime in LA there is a serial killer on the loose called "The Westside Ripper". The couple have their suspicions about Matt being the killer and to find out he is. They come up with an idea to make a podcast featuring "The Westside Ripper" to make money after going broke.
The concept of this show making a podcast is such a unique idea which years ago wouldn't have been a normalised reality but in this day and age is. I liked how the idea is modern to interests of what people listen to which is dominantly murder mysteries/true crime podcasts. I enjoyed this show for what it was, which was a lighthearted daft show that is an easy watch. When going into watching this I didn't expect it to be as humorous as it was which is a plus.
I enjoyed the craziness of the plot. It was fun to watch as you are at one point in mansions, in Vegas to then at CrimeCon. Throughout the show you never knew what was going to come next which I liked within this comedy because it wasn't as predictable as most comedy thrillers. The Westside Ripper gave aspects of the show "You" almost like Joe Goldberg with the cap and even the look of actor, Tom Bateman. This made you associate him with types of serial killers we have already met on screen before. I liked the relationship between the main characters. Both of them were a realistic married couple which made it much funnier throughout.
One thing that was a downfall for myself when watching was throughout there were fantasies played out which felt like they had no relevance to the plot and more so for entertainment purposes. I think it was probably included in the show for entertainment but sometimes wasn't always appropriate.
Overall I would recommend watching this show especially if you are a true crime fan as it just adds to the excitement throughout. You will understand references better but despite that it is an easy watch where you don't have to concentrate too much around the house.
