It is that time of the year where you reflect and look back on the year you have had. As a bookworm I have read plenty of bad and good books. Here are my little bundle of selected books that I have loved.
All the Love You Carry:
This wonderful book written by Charis Ed depicts love within poetry in a way I have never seen before. This self-help book is uplifting. I have read many poetry books and felt related to but never got a sense of hope within certain topics. This poetry depicts a healing journey as it is separated into three parts: the love you have lost, finding love and the love within yourself. All being beautifully written bringing hope to any parts you struggle with whether that is self love or heartbreak. The main message throughout is about interconnectedness of everything and that love may just be the most powerful force our existence can ever experience. This was achieved because it made you feel that after each page it was easy to read. You could pick it up and put it back down whenever and know you wouldn't get confused or lost.
Dancing at the Harvest Moon:
This romance fiction is the cozy autumnal read we all need. I definitely did, it was the perfect seasonal read I didn't expect. It was a very rogue purchase purely bought because of how thick the book was, it isn't a long one. The story follows Maggie, who is left by her husband and decides to move out after finding old love letters, back to a special place called Harvest Moon. She moves back there in hope to find her old first love only to encounter a lot of change and a second chance at love but this time it looks a little different. This book takes you on a journey of not only love but womanhood. It navigates different stages in life which makes it relatable. I love the setting of this place as it is perfectly placed to suit Maggie's romance and you feel like you are there. It is almost as if you have been there before.
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief:
Daisy's inner child is screaming. Now this is a random one but after watching the films it made me want to go back in time. Not only to Ancient Greek times but to when I was in my preteens. This book is a classic. It is so cleverly written for a younger generation educating them on Greek mythology because let's be honest it can be confusing from time to time. This book is about a young boy Percy who finds out he is half-blood. Meaning he is half human and half god. Finding out he is Poseidon's son he moves out of the real world to a half blood camp only to discover he is to be sent on a quest to find Zeus's lightning bolt. This book is just fun to read. There are lots of monsters and tales to learn. There are plenty of twists to keep you going on their journey and not knowing what is to come next. You feel a part of it along with Percy. I definitely would recommend it if you want either an easy read, a bit of nostalgia or if you love Greek mythology.
Verity:
Colleen Hoover knows how to make you have goosebumps. This thriller has been one of my favorites I have ever read. The story is about an aspiring writer who becomes involved with finishing a poor writers book series after they are in a terrible crash. They move in and find out everything isn't exactly what it seems. If you want something that keeps you on edge this book is perfect. It had me looking side to side a little scared. The setting of this book is perfect for creating this eerie image of where this young writer has come to visit. There isn't just jump scares but romance too! A very unexpected love affair which isn't the only twist and turns that happen.
