WARNING MAY BE SPOILERS!
Hello besties!
I have missed you, have you missed me?
This week is my favourite, it is book week. We are going to discuss books being turned into films thoughts? Feelings? Do they do them justice?
Let us get right into it:
Reminders of him, Colleen Hoover
Regretting You, Colleen Hoover
Verity, Colleen Hoover
The Housemaid, Freida McFadden
After, Anna Todd
I personally enjoy a film I have read, however I do find they leave things out or add things and have me sit there like “why?” Does anyone agree?
Regretting You, I will not lie. I couldn't remember most of the book when I watched it, however I loved the film and slowly remembered parts from the book. This one represented the book really well, I cannot personally think of anything that was missing or added that was not needed. Colleen Hoover also has another film coming out March 13 called Reminders of Him which I am excited about. Not to mention everyone is raving about Verity, however I loved Verity. It is one of my favourite all time books. I read it in about four hours. My biggest fear is that the movie will not do the book justice, the book leaves you on the edge of your seat about what is going to happen. Not to mention the book is a little scary, if there are not the tense moments in the film it is not worth it. Some scenes that spring to my mind that are important are the pregnancy, the bed-frame bitten and where the knife is found. If you have read Verity you will know what these all mean to the storyline. If some of them are not included I fear I will walk out of the cinema.
Another film I went to see recently is Freida McFadden’s The Housemaid. I watched the film first. I had yet to read the book. The film was really good, I was on the edge of my seat, wanting more and more. I did think at first Nina was the crazy one, almost shouting in the cinema “she’s crazy Millie run” then it was really Andrew. Millie’s character had a little edge to her and craziness, and I was like “everyone’s crazy maybe I should run”. Nonetheless though it was an amazing film, once I got home I picked up the book. However there were a few things I found, where is the peanut butter scene? In the book we find out Cece is allergic to peanut butter, but Andrew tells Millie she is not while Cece and Nina tell Millie she is? Also, we should have seen more of Enzo. And this may just be me, but I would have liked to see the little part where Enzo and Nina have a little thing between them. Still an amazing book and an amazing film, and I cannot wait for film two.
Anna Todd’s, After this was the first book film combination I watched. When I first watched it I didn't know it was a book. It slowly became my favourite film series. There is only one big thing I found that was missing from the film is that Tessa finds out it was a bet because she finds the sheets from their first time in his truck. That made more sense. I do however like the backstory of the After series, having started as One Direction fan fictions on Wattpad becoming what they are today.
With films, comes actors and actresses. I know all fans have their fan picks and opinions on actresses and actors chosen. I know for myself, The Housemaid I liked the casting for Andrew and Enzo a hundred percent. Now Nina is being cast as much as Amanda, I loved her in The Housemaid. She portrayed Nina so well.
For Colleen Hoover books I think Verity was cast well, I cannot picture many other actors for the cast, and when I think back to the books for myself anyway the cast does match. Same with Regretting You and Reminders of Him.
With the After series, because I had watched them first, when reading the books I already had the actors from the films in mind. They were always my Tessa and Hardin but I must say Hero FT, made me fall in love with Hardin. Just like Tessa I would have happily given him my entire life if he wanted to.
I know there are many films that are based on books. These are just some of the ones I have watched.
What are your thoughts on films being made into books?
Do we like it? Love? Hate?
Next week we will be discussing autism vs. Cooking and everything involved.
And next book week we will be discussing the famous booktok – is it good?
Do we use it? Are people making a difference in the book community through it?
Love,
Your autistic bestie
Book of the week: The Housemaid Wedding – Freida McFadden
Woman down – Colleen Hoover (not the best ones taking me longer to read but I hate DNFing so really trying to get through it)
