Learning to Live Around Pregnancy

Dear Diary,

Moving is officially over! What a long week it’s been. Our new home is officially furnished and 80% organized. The master bedroom is complete, as well as the kitchen and living room. The baby’s room still has a long way to go, but we have a crib and a change table built so far! I also found the cutest little ocean themed rug to go with the blue accent wall. It makes me feel a little better knowing we still have 12 weeks before the baby is due to get that room ready.

Now that July is over , I feel like I can finally enjoy the rest of my summer break and take every day at my own pace. Last month was jam packed with so many events.

This month, we are taking it a bit slower with a babymoon coming up next weekend and more casual dinner parties at our new home.

As the third trimester begins, I’ve started to feel baby boys kick a lot more consistently! His usual routine is kicking around 6:00am, then again around 8:00am. He usually takes a bit of a break until noon, and then again very active around dinner time and before bed. I’m trying not to get in my head about all the little aches and pains, but the upper rib pain has been so debilitating lately. It feels like my ribs are physically being pushed up and out of my body and it’s an aching pain I have never experienced before. My midwife (and Google) have assured me that as long as there are no other accompanying symptoms, then there’s nothing to worry about. The downside is I can’t take anything to help dull the pain.

It seems like all the chiro, massage therapy and stretching isn’t really having an impact on my joint and muscle pains. I’m sure they’re helping to not make things worse, and they feel great at the moment, but I’m desperate for some relief. I’ve decided to take the day off and be a couch potato to try and recover from all the moving and unboxing of the past week. The guilt is still gnawing at me in the back of my mind, but I’m trying to tune it out. My body needs rest and I need to honour that. I need to make my peace with the fact that not every day will be super productive or active, and that’s okay.

On the bright side, we are in the home stretch! Less than three months left to go!

We start birthing prep classes in 3 weeks, which is making this all feel much more real! I can’t wait to just have a baby boy laying on me instead of inside me.

Until next week,

B.
