Slowing Down Life

It is no secret that life runs away with us and before we know it! I have often thought to myself already this year, where has this past month gone?

Being caught between work, learning and keeping up with family, whilst trying to take time for yourself to nurture our passions can all be so tiring and tough to fit it all into our busy schedules.

Often this means that our personal lives outside of work falls neglected, this is why the passage of time seems to become lost with speed. The vitality of staying present in the moment of time proves itself in the reward of experiencing and valuing memories when they are made. However, working a nine to five or looking after others consumes a lot of our time, stopping us from being able to feel present in the moment therefore we must find the time in our busy days to practice living in the moment and slowing down our lives.

A great way to do this is by doing things with intention and grounding yourself by engaging in your daily routine, for example, starting your day with a coffee or tea, this mundane and mindless activity can be transformed into a time to appreciate the moment. Stirring your drink, infusing it with the intention of having a great day whilst then practicing gratitude that you get to start your day with warmth and comfort. By doing this it isn’t only big events that become memorable, but you start to see magic in even the smallest events in life.

This example can and should be applied to our own everyday routine whether that be whilst doing your makeup or if you get 10 minutes to read your favourite book, every second of time is precious so treat it as such! Similarly, in today’s society we are expected to be doing something all the time, constantly we are being shown ‘day in the life’ videos as well as the constant pressure of comparing ourselves to others but very rarely do we see or hear of people taking some time to slow life down and check in on themselves.

It’s as simple as taking five minutes to practice some breath work to really ask yourself, “how am I doing?”. By partaking in breathing techniques it allows yourself to become more centered, feel grounded and more present in your life which is something that everyone could benefit from because time passes by so quickly.
