All Things Nesting Anxiety

Dear Diary,

What they really don’t talk about enough, is the nesting anxiety that starts to show up as you enter the end of the second trimester. We’re now at 23 weeks (nearly 24!) and boy oh boy am I starting to get fidgety. Our little condo unit has become home to us in the past year and a half, and originally we thought we could stick it out and have a baby boy here. But... as time went on and we began to build our baby registry, we realized just how much stuff comes along with a baby. In particular, how big and bulky things like a crib, a bassinet, the tummy time playmats, and all the toys can be. So we found ourselves looking for a new home.

Essentially, we had two options. 1: Stick it out with a newborn and find a place to move at the end of the year - in the middle of winter - with a 2 month old. Or 2: Find a place during the summer holidays while I have a break from work and move before the baby arrives - keeping in mind we also need to pay a higher rent amount then and we won’t be able to save as much before the baby boy is here.

We decided if we could find something we liked, that it would be easier and worth it in the long run to move sooner rather than later. At least I have time off in the next few weeks to pack, slowly move, not feel rushed or pressured. Plus I could put some of these nesting feelings at ease by starting to build up the baby’s room - something that was eating away at me, since we currently live in a one-bedroom condo and wouldn’t have had the space for a baby’s room.

House hunting was difficult, to say the least. While we couldn’t truly afford a home, we settled for condos or townhouses. We love our current area and didn’t want to stray too far, which limited us. On top of that, we have two cars. My husband’s work van is very tall (underground parking was very tricky here in the city!) and I spend so much time in my kitchen that I didn’t want to compromise downsizing from what I currently had. Eventually, we found a unit down the street from our current home that has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a beautiful kitchen and is still within our budget!

Now comes the time crunch. We receive the keys next week to our new home, but don’t technically have to vacate our current home until the end of the month.

I figured this way I could slowly move our stuff over the course of two weeks, rather than trying to move everything in one day. It also helps with the anxiety (and the back pain) of entering the third trimester.

Check back soon for updates on the new baby room! I’m hoping to have it ready for all the baby items before the baby shower! I can’t wait to make a home out of our new place!

B.
