Bump on Board

Dear Diary,

We are nearing the end of the second trimester! I can’t believe how fast time is flying by! Some new symptoms I’ve unlocked: baby boy loves to kick super low or super high, nothing in between. I’ve also been feeling lots more back pain and joint aches. Thankfully, I still have some insurance coverage so I’ve booked myself some prenatal chiropractor sessions, on top of my usual monthly prenatal massage.

Fingers crossed this helps with my stiffness!

My husband and I also took an impromptu beach day getaway this weekend. He found a small beach town about 3 hours away from the city and when I say I fell in love, I mean I had one of the best beach experiences in our province! Since we only have lakes, my beach expectations are usually quite low, and it’s always overcrowded. But this little town was so full of joy, such kind people and great food! The beach was soft sand, nice waters and they even had cabanas for rent for such a reasonable price! It made being pregnant on the beach much more enjoyable.

I was able to lounge around under the shade on a comfy lounger all afternoon. There were plenty of mocktails, snacks and restaurants all over. Plus, parking!

Originally, we were going to take a babymoon holiday down in the USA, but with soaring air fares and just all the other nuances that come with travelling while pregnant, we decided to book an extended weekend getaway next month in the same little beach town! We found an affordable Airbnb and booked it on the drive home. I’m so excited to have a little bit of vacation time with just us two. While I’m so incredibly excited to meet our baby boy, I also know our lives will be so different as a family of three. I want to soak up all of this time with just us two.

Work, bills and responsibilities will always be there, so we feel it’s so important to have some small moments like these to look forward to and to help us re center ourselves and remember we’re on the same team, we want the same things and we can get through any of the challenges ahead.

Some other updates this week, we get the keys to our new home in 2 days! While I’ve packed a lot of stuff, there’s still so much to do before we are fully settled down. I also had my glucose test and am awaiting results. Fingers crossed all went well and I don’t have to think about gestational diabetes. I’m trying to remember it’s not a death sentence, but also there’s so much negativity online about this so I’ve been avoiding the doom scrolling until my appointment.

See you with some updates on the new home next week!

B.
