Is Reality TV Bad for Us, or Do We Just Love to Watch?

I am one of the first to say I am a huge fan of reality TV. I mean anything, from love, life the whole lot. I tend to watch it more than normal TV or anything else. But after watching Love Island from the very start and the most new season. A question stands: is reality TV even reality anymore?

Seeing the contrast of the first and most recent season it shows how perfected it has been curated into being. Then onto other shows, knowing and understanding how much work goes into creating the show is quite alarming to say it is "reality tv”. 

The reason I love watching reality TV in the first place is purely just to listen to a load of rubbish, people arguing or moaning about major things and feeling better about myself. But I can't help but notice there is a standard to how it is portrayed.

Reality TV is not realistic. The people alone that are on TV especially aren't the normal everyday person to an extent. Most have had hundreds of pounds spent on treatments before and nevermind the amount of PT and workout sessions to look perfected on the telly. Now don’t get me wrong, so would I if I had the nation watching me every night. 

I miss the days where we could see the odd smoke or fights on telly on Love Island because that is the reality. These things put pressure on the outside world and I understand the appeal. We all would love for that to be our lives but yet again it is about how it looks not how it feels. 

It shows a lot about us that we love reality TV to have a good judge and a say about people we don't even know and see for 50 minutes a night. Being nosy is what us Brits do best which is not always the best trait to have. 

It is an important reminder to take reality TV with a pinch of salt and to not take it so literally and compare your life with theirs. Us working girls who work full time don't have the amount of time they do on their coffee dates and to live these lavish lives. 

Nowadays a lot of us are seeking real and it is hidden in the corners of the internet like Youtube and lives because reality TV isn't real anymore like it was back in the 2000’s.
