Things We Outgrow Without Realising

They say, time flies. This statement is very accurate and applies to our lives too. It feels like yesterday we were little kids who couldn’t wait to grow up, to be an adult and now adulthood feels like a burden. Being a child was the merry part of our lives, doing that summer holiday homework felt like an arduous task. Who knew that it was the lightest burden of all? The series of responsibilities that followed our paths when we became adults were a challenge indeed.
Children are meant to be jolly, cheerful, carefree. We often pictured adults as free and responsible ,full of freedom. We dreamt of living our lives the way elders do. The major elephant in the room is never addressed. The transition from childhood to adulthood. The transition from carefree to careful. Decisions become more complicated. As we grow older, decisions change from friends, hangouts to responsibilities, obligations, jobs, careers, internships etc. As children, when we heard the word “maturity” we would run to our adults to ask the meaning of it. Well, maturity is not about always being serious.
It is about being well informed ,responsible for making decisions. Sometimes, we suppress the hobbies we love, the things we love to buy for ourselves just because of the obligations we have to serve. We barely manage to find time for pursuing our own interests. We start prioritising things that are valuable rather than our own relaxing hobbies. Also, friendships too form a major section of our childhood. Making friends seemed like a cakewalk in our childhood. As time flies, we go to different colleges, bid our farewells and move on with our lives. Sometimes, people become too busy that friendships fade and people part ways. What if growing up isn’t about leaving everything behind? Growing up is a phase of life. It does not necessarily mean losing your playful side. It’s about carrying the best parts of childhood with the wisdom we’ve gained.
