Two Years, Countless Eras: The Eras Tour in 2026

Monday 8 June 2026. I had nothing pencilled into my calendar but 8 June had a familiarity to it I couldn’t place. After a moment of racking my brain, I was struck by a memory. Saturday 8 June 2024. My mum and I queued in a line of thousands of sparkly, glittery girls and women on their way into Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. I was 20 years old, wearing a silver sequin skirt and a cowboy hat. Now, I am 22 years old, sitting in my jeans working at the kitchen table and Taylor Swift has been my most played artist for the last 2 years running straight.
Back in 2023, when I saw the Instagram post announcing Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, I stood up and screamed. I had rekindled my love of Taylor since the release of Midnights in 2022 and I had been following fan speculation online that a tour would be announced. I knew I had to be there, whatever the cost.
That meant spending hours on Ticketmaster crossing my fingers behind my back praying I could get two tickets wherever in the UK I could find them. After several attempts, I secured two standing tickets for 8 June in Edinburgh, a 3 hour and 30-minute train journey from my house. I didn’t care; I would make it happen.
At 22, I view the Ticketmaster saga more critically. The prices were eye-watering and hotels ranked up their prices ridiculously in each city, cutting out many Swifties who needed to travel to see the tour. Ticketmaster should have been held accountable for its Eras Tour logistical nightmare that has been replicated since with artists such as Harry Styles and Ariana Grande. The sad thing is in comparison; Eras Tours ticket prices are now seen as reasonable. That was not right or fair.
The morning of my date, I prayed ‘Getaway Car’ would be my surprise song and when I got it mixed with ‘The Bolter’ from The Tortured Poets Department, my spirit ascended to the heavens. I still love Reputation but these days, I’m a Tortured Poets girl at heart. Songs that once held such painful, personal significance in 2024 like ‘Is It Over Now?’ and ‘My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys’ are now sung in my bedroom with a self-aware, light tone. New songs, some that didn’t even exist at the time of my show, take on new meaning like ‘Nothing New’, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ and ‘Father Figure.’
Since The Eras Tour, I have entered and left many phases of my life. I completed my undergraduate degree in Birmingham; I moved from the Midlands to South Yorkshire for a master’s course where I have grown and achieved the previously impossible. Throughout this period of my life, Taylor Swift’s discography has been a companion and the Eras Tour a cherished memory I can look back on fondly. The Eras Tour was a moment of personal and collective celebration even if the process to get into the stadium was far from smooth.
Next month, I am going back to Edinburgh for the first time since the concert. I am looking forward to creating new memories with my friends, adding a new dimension of meaning to a place I only discovered through music. I have lived my ‘Eras’ era, I am excited to see which Taylor Swift album takes me into my next stage of life.
